Highly important Irish Historical Interest connected to Major General Felix Cronin and his wife Kitty Kiernan. This antique Limerick lace shawl is in itself, a most stunning piece but add to that the following note which accompanies it and it’s importance is evident: ‘I purchased this piece of Irish lace in 1942 in Limerick. It was stated to be from a Mrs. O’Brien House who was a lacemaker and teacher of house-making in County Limerick about sixty years ago. I purchased the lace shawl for my wife at a cost of two pounds. Signed Felix Cronin. The reverse side of the note reads Purchased Mr. Bennet's Shop, Adare, Co. Limerick, Old Creamery Road, June 1942. As we know, Kitty Kiernan was Major General Felix Cronin’s wife. The lace measures 109cm x 98cm. The lace is also accompanied by a very interesting booklet of lace border patterns. Front cover reads: French Patterns Fabulous November 1841. The reverse reads: Irish lace borders scrips Miss Ballamy’s Academy 1842
