Case for the Beatification of Irish Martyrs Archbishop Dermot O’Hurley of Cashel, and Bishop Cornelius O’Devany of Down and Connor (2 vols, Rome, 1914) Text in Latin and Italian. Large octavo – Quarter-leather and buckram – wear/sunning to spine. Large octavo. Contains detailed lives of the two martyrs. O’Hurley was born near Limerick in 1519, and spent much of his adult life on the Continent. Appointed to Cashel in 1581 he returned to Ireland but was arrested after a period in hiding. He refused to accept the supremacy of Queen Elizabeth, was tortured and hanged in 1584. O’Devany was executed in January 1612. Both were beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1992.
